What the PONC?

We’re happy to announce that we’re launching PONC.tech today. But what is PONC.tech? The short version is that PONC.tech is a company that wants to build products and services, with an aim on privacy, security, and general ethical practices. Practices like not collecting data of users unless it’s absolutely needed, not using techniques to inflate the cost, and picking projects that improve the lives of the people that use it.

The road to PONC.tech has been an interesting one, the idea originated last year, when the Senate of Berlin wanted a secure digital proof of vaccination for the culture sector. We looked at the competition and found their offers lacking, and we decided to write our own offer, one that was cheaper, needed less infrastructure, and did not store any private data in the system itself. Our offer was accepted, we got to work, and BärCODE was born.

The months that followed were intense, but also rewarding, and it made us realise that we worked together exceptionally well, considering how much we got done in the small timeframe we had, and the ever-changing regulations that our suite had to conform to. Besides that, our collective experience made us realise that there is a definite need for software that goes against the current market trends of making the user the product, and we decided to try and fill that need.

So, we started the process of founding PONC.tech, where we will build software that we’d be happy to use ourselves, and to make a living by improving society, and the industy. To stick to our ideals, we’re totally self-funded, and enthusiastic about what the future brings!
